NSW Council Crossover & Permit Guide

A practical starting point for understanding when driveway work may involve council approval.

Why driveway crossovers need a separate check

Work on the public footway or road reserve is different from work contained within a private lot. Canterbury-Bankstown Council’s vehicular footway crossing application covers approval to construct an external driveway outside the lot and associated work, including stormwater connections to council’s system.

What the council application asks for

The council guidance refers to owner consent, pre-construction site photos, site plans, sediment-control plans and a stormwater plan where a connection is proposed. Incomplete information can delay assessment.

Use this as a starting point

Requirements vary by council and site. Check the relevant council guidance before committing to a construction sequence. No approval outcome is promised by this guide.
